President Biden Praises Counties for Rebuild Efforts at NACo Conference

On Tuesday, President Joe Biden delivered remarks from the National Association of Counties (NACo) 2023 Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. His address focused on the economy, praising county leaders for their work in helping to rebuild the country.[0]

“We have created 12 million jobs in two years, and our unemployment rate is at a 50-year low of 3.4%,” Biden stated.[1] He also credited counties for their part in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and in replacing dirty diesel buses that are bad for people's health and the environment.[2]

Biden discussed the importance of the American Rescue Plan, which sent $350 billion directly to counties. He noted that the Republican proposals in Congress would add another $3 trillion to the national debt over the next 10 years, but that when he introduces his budget in March, he will cut the deficit by another $2 trillion.[2]

The president also commented on inflation, which is continuing to fall, and food and gas prices, which have started to go down.[3] And, he highlighted the tragedy of families in America facing difficult times, saying, “It’s a family’s worst nightmare, and it’s happening far too often in this country.[3] Far too often.
